PLANO, Tx. – We’re used to seeing firefighters in tons of gear but Wednesday, they were gearing up for something else entirely. I know, I know, you’re thinking it’s a little early to be showing a preview of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, but this is a bit different.
“The guys are kind of getting ready for their big day,” says Plano Fire-Rescue Fire Chief Sam Greif. “October 25 they’re going to be sporting the bras and walking the runway.”
Plano Fire-Rescue and Plano Firefighters Association are the gorgeous models at the Women Rock’s Battle of the Bras event, hosted by the Women`s Council of Realtors, Collin County.
“The bras are going to be auctioned off, and all the proceeds go to Women`s Rock Collin County,” says Plano Firefighters Association Board Member, Brad McCutcheon. “and that money goes to support patients and women in Collin County who are battling breast cancer.”
“We have seen a little growth in Collin County, so this is a way that helps us make sure we’re always able to help those who ask for help,” says Luann Daniel, who founded Women’s Rock seven years ago, after losing a friend to breast cancer. Unfortunately, her story is one of many.
“My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in college; she is a breast cancer survivor,” says McCutcheon. “Knowing someone personally who’s gone through breast cancer, that’s no big deal. For me just to be able to help, just a little bit, that’s something that I’m very very happy that our organization is able to do.”
“It’s a very serious cause, but even the survivors there that night are gonna be in a celebratory mood and they’re gonna try to have as much fun as possible — and so we just ask for public support,” says Chief Greif.
Support will definitely be out there in full force, whether you’re wearing it, or just cheering.
