ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 7) – When you think drag racing, do you think of 10,000 horsepower, nitromethane-burning Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters performing explosive passes of 330 mph? Or do you think pink? If Texas Motorplex officials have their way this year, you will think of both, especially on Championship Sunday of the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals, Oct. 13-16. On Sunday, Motorplex and NHRA will encourage fans, sponsors, racers and everyone on site to #GOPINK and show their support for breast cancer awareness, research and the women battling and beating the “C” word. Fans who purchase tickets in Champion’s Club or Super Seats will receive a FREE #GOPINK T-shirt courtesy of AAA Texas, Texas Motorplex, Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet, Women Rock and the City of Waxahachie. A limited supply of the #GOPINK shirts will be available for sale on site throughout the event, benefiting Women Rock. Women Rock, Inc. was founded in December 2010 by LuAnn Daniel to honor and remember her dear friend Susan Hicks who lost her battle with breast cancer. Women Rock had a very meager beginning with only $1,200 in the bank but today Women Rock serves women in 10 counties in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma and request for services continues to increase daily. “The opportunity to participate in NHRA is a huge opportunity for Women Rock to educate their large crowd about breast health and meet new fellow survivors,” LuAnn said. “The NHRA event is also giving Women Rock the opportunity for its first national exposure which is very exciting! Participating in the Pink Walk will be very moving and meaningful to all survivors and will make a big impact on your crowd and hopefully be encouraging to women and their families who are currently in the battle.” The annual track walk – a time when fans are allowed on the racing surface before final eliminations begin on Sunday – will be the first of several special activities geared to honor those making a difference in the fight against breast cancer. “Women play a major role in all aspects of drag racing,” Texas Motorplex General Manager Gabrielle Stevenson said. “We wanted to help shed light on the organizations and the people making a huge impact in the fight against breast cancer and we can’t think of a better way than having the best fans in all of motorsports #GOPINK together.” Tickets for the 2016 AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals are available now, ranging from just $10 up to $380 for VIP weekend packages. The third annual PreStage Fan Fest in Downtown Ennis will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 between 5-9 p.m. with food trucks, music, driver appearances and more at this free entry event. Gates open for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 with sportsman qualifying runs between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Two rounds of professional qualifying highlight the Friday, Oct. 14 schedule, along with sportsman qualifying throughout the day, including the Nitro Friday Night Lights pro qualifying session. Saturday, Oct. 15, is packed with sportsman eliminations and the final two rounds of professional qualifying. Gates open at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, with pre-race ceremonies at 10 a.m. and final eliminations for the fourth of six NHRA Countdown playoff events getting under way at 11 a.m. Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances.
