https://app.theauxilia.com/pay/3f903d89-4d62-dfc3-a2ae-64992d6338a4Welcome to my birthday fundraiser. I chose this recent photo because I think the dragon could serve as a stand-in for breast cancer.
So far I’m ahead of the dragon, but who knows for how long? However, let’s focus on the positive. Seven years ago a mammogram led to what has so far proven to be life-saving, or at least life-extending treatment. I am forever grateful that I had health insurance and the means to pay the deductibles. But what about the women and men who don’t have good insurance or the financial means to cover all the expenses? It is this part of Women Rock’s mission that speaks most loudly to me. As a breast cancer survivor, I am very aware of the financial and emotional burden that cancer can bring to a family.
Historically I have had a big party whenever I am doing a fundraiser. This year I am changing that up by having a virtual party, inviting everyone to still make a contribution to help fund the valuable services that Women Rock funds and drink a virtual toast to not only surviving but thriving, in my continuing cancer journey. I am taking my husband’s advice and offering up the money I would spend on a party as a matching fund for every contribution made, up to a total match of $1,500. I hope you will join me in this endeavor to help fund mammograms, education, and support programs for the women and men facing a possible breast cancer diagnosis, or needing assistance during their treatment.
As a final note, as I celebrate another year on this earth, I think a great deal about those who will never get to celebrate another. I am dedicating this fundraiser to the memory of Janis Steele Fletcher, a former board member and dedicated volunteer at Women Rock. Hope you’ll join me.
